PARENTAL Loss.

What is it?

Parental Loss is a new non-judgemental space for adults who have experienced the death of a parent to come together with others who can understand and acknowledge the nuances of their grief.

This is an inclusive meeting for anyone who has lost a parental figure.

You are welcome whether you were related by blood or not, you were close or estranged, you were raised with them or apart, your bereavement is recent or long ago.

This meeting space launches on Thursday 21st November.

Why did it start?

The death of a parent can be life-changing. As well as the personal loss of that relationship, many parents are an anchor for the wider family and provide emotional, practical or financial support.

Parental Loss, launched in November 2024, was created to give voice and valuable space for people who are grieving the death of a parental figure.

A space to navigate this ‘new normal’ through conversation and connection with others who really ‘get’ it.

The meeting was founded by volunteers who have themselves experienced the death of a parental figure, and it continues to be run and hosted this way.

“My wonderful Dad, Nick, passed away not far off 10 years ago. I found TNN when I was particularly struggling with my mental health, in 2021, and had found that a lot of the pain I was feeling was mixed up in grief I felt for my Dad.

The meetings are so special, a safe space where people can openly express the deepest and weirdest parts of their grief without judgement.

I feel honoured to host these meetings and witness the strength of people opening up and sharing their own grief journey: holding space and holding people (albeit virtually) in their toughest times.”

What to expect?

The meetings were created to give space to openly discuss experiences of grief in an empathetic environment, in the knowledge that they are shared with others who can relate.
